Quality Heat Pump Repair on Snapp Bridge Road in Limestone, TN

We received a call from a new customer in Limestone, TN in need of a heat pump repair. They stated that their heat pump seemed to be struggling to heat their home. They also said that when there was a call for heat the outdoor unit didn't appear to be running. We went out to their home and took a look at their system to see if we could help them out with their situation. The outdoor heat pump was locked out due to an error code. Their heat pump uses a demand defrost board that utilizes an outdoor ambient temperature thermistor and a coil temperature thermistor in order to operate properly.

We tested the two thermistors by taking an ohm reading on them while referencing our thermistor chart and taking an outdoor temperature reading. The thermistor for the coil was way out of range which is why the unit locked out. The coil temperature thermistor was registering a much higher temperature than what it should have been reading so the heat pump locked itself out in order to protect itself.

We gave the customer a couple of different options. We offered to only replace the bad thermistor. We also offered to replace the bad thermistor along with the other thermistor and the defrost board due to the age of the system. We explained our options to the customer and let them make their decision based upon the facts presented. The customer lived a good way out in the country and we were going to have to get the part or parts from a supply house in Gray, which was about an hour away from their home due to some bridges not being passable at this time. We offered the additional items at minimal markup so that we weren't back out there with another thermistor failure or a defrost board failure in the near future.

The customer opted for replacing both thermistors and the defrost board all at the same time. We picked up the parts, drove back to their place right away, and performed the repair. We tested the system to confirm proper operation and they were back up and running again.
